New year, new resolutions!

Well happy new year to you all! 2009 was a good year for me, and I’m convinced 2010 is going to be equally as good, if not better!
I don’t really have resolutions, nothing that formal. I have thing’s I’d like to achieve or at the very least make headway in achieving. Two points that spring to mind are my fitness, and my photography.
I don’t post as much of my photography as I should, the problem is all my best works are portrait photography; the last thing I want to do is post up pictures of people who may not nessesserily want their photo plastered on the web! I have ordered some near gear for the new year, a new battery grip, some largers CF discs, a new flash and I’m planning a new lens or two finances permitting. I really want to make an effort this year, perhaps even sell a few to see how I get on.
The other thing is my fitness. Over the past year or so I have lost a good amount of weight, but midwaythrough 2009 I lost monemtum and started getting lazy again. So I joined the local health club and off I went. This was fine, but lets face it boring as fuck! One night I was out on a stag do, and I met a local guy who is a bit of a fitness jack of all trades, without going into it too much he got me into kettlebells. If you don’t know what they are, Google em. Again I’m not gonna rant too much about there here, because I know how much you all love my rambling. All I will say is, if you are in the Moray area and you want to try something new and different have a peek at www.wrightfitness.co.uk and give them a shout about their kettlebell courses, tell em Steve sent you!
Every freelancer will ‘get’ this…..

All hail Spotify!

I can get a bit jaded with all the rubbish new music services I get bombarded with every day, which is why it’s such a breath of fresh air when something comes along that ticks every single box. For me, Spotify is that thing. Spotify is a streaming service. It just streams, but by holy shit does it do it well. It has three things that set it apart from other, similar offerings – catalogue, speed and social functions.
Firstly, Catalogue. It seems to put just about every song in the entire world at your fingertips, streamable within a few seconds. Majors, indies, everyone seems to be on board. There was only one record I looked for, in an extensive list of obscure stuff, that I couldn’t find.
Secondly, it’s lightning fast. Rather than being built around a website, you download a small application to play your music in. Some might consider this a disadvantage, but I disagree. It’s responsive, lightweight in terms of memory footprint (just 13MB for me), and echoes Songbird’s design, which is never a bad reference point.
Lastly, the social functions. As with most other music “players” you can not only create playlists, but you can share and edit them in realtime. For example if you have Spotify installed, click the below link, it will allow you access to my “Random” playlist, you can add songs to it, remove songs and even copy the playlist to your own priavte Spotify setup. Very simple, very easy, very intuitive.

So where can you get it? Well, I’m afraid to say that Spotify is in private beta. At the moment, you can’t get in without an invite, and invites aren’t exactly thick on the ground yet. However, there’s a “premium” version that doesn’t include ads, costing a tenner a month, and if you shell out for that, then you can get in today. Money talks.
I’m dead impressed by Spotify. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a music service get everything right. In the meantime, top marks for usability and implementation.
If I get any Spotify invites, I’ll offer them up on my Facebook page first of all, and if there are any left over I’ll post here.
DAMMIT CHLOE!

To celebrate the awesomeness of the new series of 24,I have decided to offer up a cheeky wee ringtone for your mobile pleasure.
I know it’s geeky as hell, and quite frankly I should get out more; however anyone that says they don’t want to be Jack Bauer (or at least go to the pub with him) is a liar.
On an even geekier note, the FBI ringtone is just pish, VIVA LA CTU!
