Epic? I hope so.

Alan Wake is a video game being developed by Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish company behind the Max Payne games. Alan Wake is billed as a “psychological action thriller”. Microsoft Game Studios is the publisher of the game. The game is being developed exclusively for Windows Vista and Xbox 360, with a PlayStation 3 version also planned but then cancelled when Microsoft acquired publisher rights of the title.

Alan Wake is a bestselling horror writer. Early on in his career, his fiancée Alice was his muse. Just prior to meeting her, he had started to have strange dreams which he used as material for his first book. The book was a big success, a dream come true. But then Wake’s fiancée vanished without a trace. Wake was devastated. He couldn’t write anymore, his dreams stopped and he began to suffer from insomnia. At the beginning of the game, Wake travels to a sleep clinic to seek treatment for his condition. The secluded clinic is located near the small town of Bright Falls, Washington, far away from the stressful urban lifestyle. Receiving treatment at the clinic, Wake is able to sleep again. At the clinic, he meets a mysterious woman who is the very image of his missing fiancée, uncannily so. At once, his dreams return, this time as terrible nightmares. Wake begins to write again: a new book based on those nightmares. But something is horribly, horribly wrong. Impossibly, the town of Bright Falls starts to change to something awful that bears a close resemblance to Wake’s new book. Wake ends up fighting for his life with a gun and a flashlight in his hands, trying to understand what’s happening.

I’m hoping were looking at something with the lifespan of Oblivion, if it’s going to be a decent length of game then we have a winner. Defiantly looking forward to this one! :D

You slackers!

Well in less that a week there are over 400 individuals registered to use the proxy. Thats a crazy amount of wasted company time, well done! ;)

New system

Right then, I have decided to trial a new system to access the proxy. It doesn’t cost you anything, it’s mainly a way for me to try and monitor the usage a bit closer to see if I can reduce costs and keep the site up and running.

Click the link as normal, it will take you to a registration and account management page, all you do is sign up, it will send you an e-mail to confirm your address, click the activation link and away you go!

The proxy is now stored here, but to access you have to register here first.

Any problems, contact me and I’ll get you sorted!

Ps, as a result of the new system, I have also unbanned all previously banned IP addresses. :)

It worked!

Well it looks like by banning the top 5 users, I have managed to save heaps of bandwidth. Pre the banning I was using approx 2gb (2000mb) per day, now after the banning I’m averaging 300mb! A huge 1700mb per day reduction!

As far as I am concerned, I want to get these 5 IP addresses back using the site, but to do that I need to talk to them to find out how they are using so much. It could be that they are on a corporate network and 200 people share the same IP, it could be a number of things.

So I’ll unban them today, and hope they contact me, if not I’ll ban again and see if I can get their attention.

Sorry, had to be done.

I’m afriad I had to ban the top 5 IP addresses that used the proxy. They were sucking up so much bandwith, it was killing me. If one of them happens to be one of your mates, please ask them to e-mail me “steve at stevieb.net” . Once I find out from them what is is they are doing, I can give them access once more and hopefully try and resolve any further issues.

I think especially as over 3000 people have used the proxy in only a few weeks, and only 8 have responded to the poll on the homepage it shows pretty poor form. And to the one person on the poll that told me to stop moaning about the costs, I know your IP address! ;) Just kidding, I’m not that petty! he he he
