Goodbye Microsoft, hello Linux!

I have been toying with the idea for some time now, I have heard so many people talk about the benefits of running Linux. I was primarily put off by having to bugger about with what I felt was a pretty poor installation setup, this was until I came across Wubi. It’s a great wee app for installing your chosen flavor of Linux, in this case I went with the latest Ubuntu release 8.04 (Hardy Heron). I did it on an old laptop with a partitioned drive so the install was seamless, it even picked up all my hardware drives (including my wireless ones). I have heard reports from people with newer machines having problems with drivers, but there are always ways and means.

It’s a fair old learning curve, but I’m dual booting with Windows XP so it’s not so bad if I get stuck.

All in all a nice clean system, sure it’s gonna be tough to get into but I reckon it will be worth it in the long run!
